Liskeard & District Museum invaded by Dalek!
If anybody out there has the Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver handy then Liskeard & District Museum are in need of it, since a Dalek has landed inside its doors
Liskeard museum is already famous for its outstanding collection of tin plate toys now adds the Dalek to its exhibits thanks to local Toy Hunter, Phil Chapman. Formerly in the possession of a colleague who sadly passed away, it had been sitting idle in a shed in Gunnislake for many years. The invader, originally built by a BBC Props Maker is now back on full form and ready to exterminate once again thanks to some sympathetic restoration.
The Dalek is surprisingly large, big enough for a fully-grown man to sit inside and in the early days before CGI technology, the original Daleks were built on castors and towed along on ropes with a human inside operating the head!
Local media team, Studio Wallop have also added some Augmented Reality Technology to him and if you download the free Zappar App to your smart phone, then you and your family will have lots of fun interacting with this exciting new alien and other parts of the museum.
Also on display this year are an exhibition of the history of local medicine, featuring some gruesome instruments, a whole floor devoted to the history of Liskeard and a fascinating room full of information and interactive technology devoted to the Mining and Minerals of this area. Whatever your interest, you are bound to spend a fascinating few hours here.
Entrance is FREE with opening hours 10 am- 4 pm Monday to Friday and 10 am- 1 pm on Saturdays. We are dog friendly too!
