Volunteers have been working hard to create this year’s display. The main focus is Callington Past and Present. The exhibition includes a wealth of information about past businesses in the town, and has new maps showing how trading on Fore Street has changed over the years.

In addition, 2019 marks the 80th anniversary of the outbreak of World War 2 and the 75th anniversary of D Day.   We want to build a picture of life in Callington in World War Two – to form part of a future exhibition and perhaps a publication.

This year, we have started by recognising those who are named on the town’s War Memorial.   We hope to collate records of these men, so that their memory is not lost. They are:

F BATTIN, K LUCAS, T H BATTEN, R LOCKWOOD, G BURFOOT, T MEAD, R COLE, C PROUT, H DEACON, M PROUT, A ERRINGTON, A PRIDHAM, L FRIEND, H PHILP, L FITZE, G RUNDLE, P GLOVER, R STEER, A HANCOCK, F SAMPSON, H JEFFERY, J TANCOCK, W LAUNDRY, F WARNE

Do you have, or know where to find, information about any of these men, their stories, photos etc…?   Please contact us. We are happy to have/make copies so that original documents remain with the family.

It is also important to record and remember all local people who were involved in the conflict. We are very aware of the role of those who served and came back, and those who remained locally – remembering that the role of women can often be overlooked.   We are sure that many local people can help us with the information to build a picture of Callington in WW2. Do get in touch.
