Introduction
Founded in 1839, the museum collections span 6000years of history in West Cornwall. Our newly redisplayed archaeology gallery explores some of Penwith's awe-inspiring ancient sites, while the social history displays look at aspects of life in more recent times. The skill and craftsmanship of painting at its best is celebrated; a programme of changing exhibitions focuses on the historic art of West Cornwall and usually includes work by the famous Newlyn School artists such as Stanhope Forbes, Walter Langley and Norman Garstin. We also have an extensive photographic archive covering life in west Cornwall from 1860 to the present day. Copies of these can be made available to schools.

Our Teachers Pack is a useful introduction to the Newlyn collection if considering an independent visit as are our self-guiding packs for the gallery exhibitions which change three times a year. To get the best from the children's visit we recommend teachers visit us beforehand and use our supporting materials to prepare the children. Many of our resources are digitised.
