People and Places of South East Cornwall, an archives outreach project involving five museums in SE Cornwall.
The aims are to:
- Collect more local history material (in the form of documents, photographs, film stock, maps as well as oral history) through outreach activities and events.
- Increase interest in volunteering in museums and/or participating in museum activities.
- Provide a digital means to collect, present and combine a variety of types of archive material and to create useful narratives for the interpretation of local history.
- provide additional resources and training to enable museums to act as a 'first stop' for family and local history enquiries.
The project will include training for volunteers, ‘commanet’ software licences, as well as computer and presentation equipment. A project coordinator will be appointed on a four month fixed term contract to manage the project. The project is due to start in October. This is a Heritage Lottery Funded Project with additional funding from the Museums Development Fund and The Cornwall Records Office.
