Silver success for the Telegraph Museum porthcurno at the South West Tourism Excellence Awards

We’re delighted to reveal that the Telegraph Museum Porthcurno has won a SILVER award at the South West Tourism Excellence Awards in the competitive Small Visitor Attraction of the Year category. The news follows a GOLD award at the Cornwall Tourism Awards, where the museum topped the Best Museum, Art & Industrial Attraction category back in November.

“This is a great start to the 2015 season. The museum has recently undergone a complete redevelopment and opened major new exhibitions in June 2014 following a 9-month closure, so these awards are extra-special to us given all the hard work of our volunteers and staff. We’ve received wonderful feedback from visitors since we re-opened, and now receiving a gold and silver award is fantastic.” Rachel Webster, Communications Manager

The South West Tourism Excellence Awards took place at the Grand pier in Weston Super Mare on Thursday 13 February. The Telegraph Museum was represented by Steve Bladon, Visitor Services Manager and Pete Johnson, museum volunteer and trustee. Steve and Pete received the silver award on behalf of all staff, volunteers and trustees, which was presented by Jane Adkins of A Head for PR.

Winners in the Small Visitor Attraction of the Year category were:

GOLD: Sculpture by the Lakes, Dorchester and Wadworth Brewery Visitor Centre, Devizes

SILVER: Telegraph Museum Porthcurno and Newquay Sea Safaris & Fishing

BRONZE: Corinium Museum, Cirencester and Stuart Line Cruises, Exmouth

HIGHLY COMMENDED: Geevor Tin Mine Museum, Pendeen and St Austell Brewery Visitor Centre, St Austell
