Redruth Old Cornwall Society Museum

Redruth OCS is dedicated to honoring, preserving and making public all aspects of Redruth’s rich heritage: the museum contains exhibits on everything from Redruth Brewery to locally-sourced precious stones. There is something for every visitor with a taste for history, young or old.

  • The Mining Section

    The mining section contains a number of mine lamps including some carbide lamps which produce and burn acetylene (C2H2). These were used in the tin mining industry from about 1900.

  • The Mineral Collection

    The mineral collection includes many samples from the Camborne School of Mines collection, some which were originally in the Redruth Hunt Collection. Neolithic flint spear heads, arrow heads and scrapers, mainly from the Carn Brea area are also on display.

  • The Brewery Collection

    The Brewery collection is mainly made up of artefacts from the Redruth Brewery. Redruth Brewery started in 1742 and closed in 2004.

  • Theatre and Music

    The Theatre and Music section has a substantial number of items, including many of the old Redruth Amateur Operatic Society programmes.

The Museum is currently closed.

Admission is free but donations are welcome.

Find us

Exit the A30 and head towards North Country. After 200 yds turn left to Portreath. At the junction turn right. You will find the Treasure Park on the left after 200 yards.
