Liskeard is an ancient Cornish town where history interweaves with mining and agriculture. Displays include mining and geological artefacts.

Explore the development of the town from Mesolithic settlers to the present time. Liskeard and District Museum is an interpretation point for the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site.

    From 1700 to 1914, the metal mining industry played a vital role in transforming our way of life. Tin and lead are just two of the minerals which were mined in this area.

  • Mining and Geology

    Visit the Daniel Gumb Room, where you can enjoy our computer interactive mining and geological exhibition.

  • Local People

    Explore colourful local characters and trades from the past.

  • Emily Hobhouse

    Discover Emily Hobhouse who was an incredibly courageous lady who changed the lives of many people in the Boer War.

The museum is now CLOSED for the winter season to allow for exhibition updates. Open again Feb 13th 2017.

Note: the Tourist Information Centre is still open for gifts, maps and tickets for local events and travel.

Explore the use of tin in everyday life with the 'Tin, Toys and Tales' exhibition.

Discover colourful characters from the past such as local architect, Henry Rice and Emily Hobhouse, a local lady who saved the lives of women and children in concentration camps during the Boer War.

Mining and geological history of our town. We are part of the World Heritage Site for Mining.
