Liskeard and District Museum

Liskeard is an ancient Cornish town where history interweaves with mining and agriculture. Displays include mining and geological artefacts.

Explore the development of the town from Mesolithic settlers to the present time. Liskeard and District Museum is an interpretation point for the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site.

  • World Heritage Site

    From 1700 to 1914, the metal mining industry played a vital role in transforming our way of life. Tin and lead are just two of the minerals which were mined in this area.

  • Mining and Geology

    Visit the Daniel Gumb Room, where you can enjoy our computer interactive mining and geological exhibition, including the Enlightened Eye, where you can create your own artwork and have it uploaded on our website!

  • Local People

    Discover colourful local characters from the past, such as our renowned architect Henry Rice, who designed Forester's Hall, which houses the museum with its Venetian Gothic frontage containing stone from local quarries.

  • Emily Hobhouse

    Emily Hobhouse was an incredibly courageous lady who changed the lives of many people in the Boer War. Her ashes were placed under the Women's Memorial, in Bloemfontein, South Africa

Open weekdays from 15th February 2016 from 10am with last admissions at 3.30 pm
Saturdays 10 am with last admission at 12.30 pm
