Lanhydrock is the perfect country house and estate, with the feel of a wealthy but unpretentious family home: follow in the footsteps of the Robartes family, walking in the 17th century Gallery, amongst the rare book collection under the remarkable ceiling. After a devastating fire in 1881 the house was refurbished in the high-Victorian style with all the latest mod-cons.

The house has amazing kitchens and nursury rooms, as offers thrilling glimpses of 'upstairs/ downstairs' life.

  • Moose Head in Lobby

High-Victorian opulence. This Moose head came back with the Agar-Robartes family from a trip to Canada in the early part of the 20th-century.

  • Bagatelle Urns in the Garden

These urns were installed in the garden by the Viscount Clidfen in the 1930s. Lanhydrock has some of the best gardens in the south-west.

  • Lanhydrock after the fire, 1881

Lanhydrock has some 7,000 family photographs in its collections. The house comes alive because of the small touches like family images on display throughout the house.

  • The tin centerpiece

This was given to Lord Robartes in grateful appreciation of his benevolence in creating a hospital for miners near Redruth.

  • John Robartes (1606-85)

Robartes was created 1st Earl of Radnor in 1679. This portrait by Kneller is one of many good quality portraits in the house.
