Hayle Heritage Centre opened its doors to the public on Thursday the 29th of August with a drinks reception and an official opening by Councillor John Pollard. The evening was a great success with over 80 people having a first look at the exhibition.

We then held two days of activities: on Friday the 30th we had local storyteller Mark Harandon here all day entertaining people, on Saturday the 31st we had a guided walk with Kinglsey Rickard from
the Trevithick Society which had 30 people attending. In the afternoon we held a kids crafting session where children made prints and cogs to take home with them.

Hayle Community Archive had a stand selling books & calendars and Lucy Frears launched her free tester Hayle app for Smart phones called Churks Hayle. We have offers of new material and artefacts for the centre including photo albums, medals and a 10 foot canvas advertising sign! The opening was a great success with over 200 people coming through the door over the 3 days.

Thanks to everyone who contributed and helped this was a great start to the centre and we are keen to build on its success, if you have any interesting stories about Hayle, or artefacts please bring them along to the centre – we would love to see them and we are looking for volunteers to help run the centre so if you have a love of history and your town get in contact you can give as little or as much time as you want.

The centre will be open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 10 -3 we are also hoping to open on a Saturday 10-3 but please contact us first. Opening times can information can be found on our website at hayleheritagecentre.org.uk or by calling us on 01736 757683
