Constantine Museum

Constantine Museum

Constantine is one of the largest villages in Cornwall and has had its own local history museum since June 2005, dedicated to the agricultural, mining, quarrying and social history of the area. The collection is housed at the Tolmen Centre, a former Wesleyan Chapel in Fore Street Constantine, near Falmouth.

This museum is run entirely by volunteers. During the year we hold fund raising events which will be advertised on our website.

  • Whistle

This whistle dates back to the second World War when a cyclist would have carried it in case there was a need to sound a warning to villagers.

  • Carnival sash

Every year the village holds its own carnival week at the end of which a carnival parade takes place and this is a sash from the 1952 event.

  • Commemorative plaque

This curved plaque was found amongst historical items stored on a local farm. Unfortunately the farmers do not know where it originally came from, however we hope one day someone may be able to identify it.

  • Hand grinder

An example of a early 20th century hand grinder.

  • Drum

Constantine has a rich history of music making. The Constantine Band was first formed in 1848. The current Constantine Band was re-established in 1977. It has always supported young musicians, and this early 20th century drum bears the inscription 'Constantine Youth Band.
