Helston Museum is celebrating a newly refurbished Art Gallery, all thanks to funding from the Arts Council via South West Museums Development. A successful bid to the 'Small Capital Grants' scheme in autumn 2015 has resulted in a £19.000 refit. Three new museum showcases, revamped LED lighting and blinds and UV light deflecting film on the windows will allow the museum to display items safely and securely. The grant was aimed at enabling smaller museums to ugrade their facilities to meet the demands of the Government Indemnity Scheme - which provides insurance cover for artefacts on loan from national and international museums. This means that Helston Museum will now be able to accept loans of some potentially exciting and never before seen in Cornwall items! Museum curator Katherine Ashton said 'we are very excited at being awarded this grant - and we are looking forward to planning some exhibitions using some of our more fragile items, which have been in storage for years, and to accepting some major loans in from national museums.'
